Open your Prism export and move every project out before January 1, 2027
Prism's Export all projects gives you one ZIP of LaTeX folders. Choose it here: each project is checked for files it asks for that are missing, packed for Overleaf's upload limits, or written as one .tex for Codex. Your Prism chats open too.

Drop the ZIP from Export all projects here, a single project's ZIP, or the unzipped folder.
: three made-up projects (a paper, a thesis with 231 figures, a reviewer response), four chats and one failed project.

OpenAI says Prism shuts down on January 1, 2027, and that all Prism data is deleted after that and cannot be recovered. History, inline comments and the Zotero link do not come with the export. How to export, step by step
- Every project in the archive found, with its main document, engine and bibliography, and the files it asks for that are not there.
- One ZIP per project for Overleaf, with the files at the top and split under its 50 MB and 180-file limits.
- The main document as one
.tex, for Codex or a journal that wants a single file. Nothing is uploaded.

Sort the whole export at once Pro
Opening, checking, and saving one project or one chat at a time are free. Pro sorts everything at once for $8, paid once.
What the check looks at
| Check | Why it matters after Prism |
|---|---|
| Main document | The .tex with \documentclass and \begin{document}. Overleaf guesses it; when the guess is wrong you set it under Menu > Main document. |
| Engine | A project that loads fontspec, unicode-math or polyglossia needs XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX. Overleaf starts every new project on pdfLaTeX. |
| Missing files | Every \input, \include, \includegraphics and \bibliography is looked up in the export. A file that is not there means the export lost it or never had it. |
| Letter case | Overview against overview.png builds on Windows and macOS and fails on Overleaf, which runs on Linux. |
| Upload size | Files and megabytes against Overleaf's limits, and the parts the project needs. |
Overleaf's limits, from its own help
| Limit | Size |
|---|---|
| One upload | 50 MB and 180 files (more files are dropped) |
| One project | 2,000 files |
| Editable text per project | 7 MB |
| One editable text file | 2 MB |
| Compile time, free plan | 10 seconds |

What no Prism export holds
OpenAI's migration guide lists four things that stay behind:
- Project history. Earlier versions of a file are gone with Prism.
- Inline comments. Copy any you still need into the text before you export.
- Collaborators. Each co-author has to be invited again wherever the project goes.
- The live Zotero connection. Export the
.bibfrom Zotero again so it is current.
Some archives carry a conversations folder of JSON files with your Prism chats; Splitlight reads it. Before Prism closes, also download the last PDF of each project from Prism's viewer, so you can compare your next build with it.
Questions
How do I open my OpenAI Prism export?
Choose the ZIP from Prism's Export all projects on this page, or a single project's ZIP, or the unzipped folder. Splitlight reads it in your browser, finds every project in it and shows each one's main document, engine, bibliography and the files it asks for that are missing, with a download ready for Overleaf.
When does Prism shut down?
OpenAI says Prism shuts down on January 1, 2027, and that all Prism data is deleted after the shutdown and cannot be recovered. Export before then: Settings, Data Controls, Export all projects (zip). What happens and where to go
Why does my Prism project not upload to Overleaf?
Overleaf takes at most 50 MB and 180 files in one upload, and its help asks for the files at the top of the ZIP, not inside a folder. An all-projects archive breaks all three. Splitlight makes one ZIP per project with the files at the top and splits a large project into parts under both limits.
Can Codex compile my Prism project?
OpenAI's migration guide says Codex's built-in LaTeX compiler is for standalone .tex files, and that most multi-file projects need a local TeX installation. Splitlight writes the main document as one .tex with every \input and \include pulled in; figures and the .bib still sit next to it. Prism to Codex
What is not in a Prism export?
OpenAI's guide lists project history, inline comments, collaborator permissions and the live Zotero connection as not moving with the files. Download the last PDF of each project from Prism too, to compare with your next build.
Is my export uploaded?
No. The ZIP is read by this page on your own computer. Nothing in it is sent anywhere, and closing the tab discards it. We count page visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics: no cookies, no personal data, and never your files. When you click a Pro button, a counter of our own adds one to a daily total for this tool, with the page and the kind of site that sent you: no cookies, no personal data, no IP address kept, and never your files.
What does Splitlight Pro add?
Pro costs $8, paid once. It sorts the whole export in one ZIP: every project ready for Overleaf (in parts where needed), every document as one .tex, every chat as Markdown and as one page that opens offline, and a spreadsheet of the projects. Opening, checking and saving one project or one chat at a time stay free.
Is Splitlight made by OpenAI?
No. Splitlight is an independent tool by Peak Apps Studio and is not affiliated with OpenAI or Overleaf. OpenAI and Prism are named only to say which files the tool opens.
