Fitbit data export stuck: what changed and what to do

When Fitbit accounts moved to Google accounts in 2026, the old export page on fitbit.com stopped being the way out. A request there now hangs, or tells you the account has moved. Your data comes from Google Takeout instead, as one archive with your whole history.

The short answer

Go to Google Takeout, signed in with the Google account your Fitbit moved to, deselect everything and tick Google Health (archives made before the switch call it Fitbit). Google emails a link when the archive is ready. Google's help page says a large history can take up to a few days, so a request that is still running after a day is normal. When it arrives, open it in Tallyband to pick the dates and data you want as a spreadsheet.

What you see, and what it means

The fitbit.com Data Export page spins, or a request stays at a percentage for daysThat page belongs to the old Fitbit account system. Migrated accounts get their data through Google.Request the archive in Google Takeout instead.
Takeout runs for hoursTakeout builds a file for every month of minute data and every day of heart rate. Years of history means thousands of files.Wait for the email. Starting a second export does not make the first one faster.

An app or website that used to export your Fitbit data stopped workingGoogle turned the old Fitbit Web API off on November 2, 2026. Apps that did not move to the new Google Health API lose access.Use the Takeout archive, which does not depend on any app.

The dates behind it

Fitbit to Google Health, 2026
DateWhat happened
May 19The Fitbit app is replaced by the Google Health app for migrated accounts.
July 15Accounts not moved to a Google account by this date are deleted, and old app versions lose support.
September 30Google stops supporting the Fitbit Web API (it keeps running for a few more weeks).
Early OctoberPeople still on old copies of the Fitbit app start getting an update screen that many cannot skip.
November 2The Fitbit Web API and its sign-in endpoints are turned off.

What the archive gives you, and what it does not

The old fitbit.com page let you pick a month and get one CSV file. Takeout gives everything since the day you set up the tracker: steps, calories and distance per minute, heart rate every few seconds, every night of sleep with its stages, weigh-ins, workouts, and CSV folders for sleep score, HRV, SpO2 and more. It has no date filter and no spreadsheet. That gap is what Tallyband fills: it reads the archive in your browser and cuts each table to your dates. For a single workout's GPS track, Google Health also has a per-workout export in the app (a TCX file), which the help page describes.

Got the ZIP? Open it here and download only the dates you need, as CSV or Excel. Nothing is uploaded.

Questions

How long does a Fitbit export take in Google Takeout?

Google says large amounts of data can take up to a few days. A few years of history usually needs hours rather than minutes, because the archive holds a file for every day of heart-rate readings.

Why does my Takeout archive have no Fitbit data?

One known cause is an export from another Google account. Export from the account the Google Health app is signed in to, with only Google Health (or Fitbit) ticked.

Can I still use the export page on fitbit.com?

Only accounts that never moved to Google can, and Google deleted unmigrated accounts after July 15, 2026. For everyone else, Google Takeout is the route.

Can I export only one month?

Not from Google: Takeout always gives the whole history. Tallyband cuts it to any range after you download it.
