Fillbook

Where Fuelio saves your log, and how to get it onto a computer

Fuelio keeps your fill-ups and costs in CSV files. Export CSV makes one file per vehicle, Backup All makes one zip with every vehicle and your photos, and the cloud backups copy the files to Google Drive or Dropbox. Below is where each one is, which one to pick and how to open it on a computer. The folder names come from Fuelio’s own help page.

The files Fuelio makes

You tapWhere the file goesWhat is in it
Settings, Backup, Export CSVFuelio/backup-csv on the phoneOne CSV file for the vehicle you pick: the vehicle, its fill-ups, cost categories and costs.
Settings, Backup, Backup AllFuelio/backup-local on the phoneOne zip with a CSV file for every vehicle, and pictures.data, a zip of the photos you attached to entries.
The Google Drive backupAndroid/Fuelio on your Drive, in backup-csv and backup-syncThe CSV exports, and in backup-sync one zip per vehicle, named like vehicle-1-sync.csv.zip.
The Dropbox backupApps/Fuelio in your DropboxFuelio’s backup files. Its help page names a backup-csv folder there for CSV files.

Fillbook opens these files as they are: a CSV file, the Backup All zip, a vehicle-1-sync.csv.zip from Drive, or several at once.

On an Android phone

  1. Open Fuelio, then Settings, then Backup. Tap Export CSV and pick a vehicle, or Backup All for every vehicle at once.
  2. Open the phone’s file manager and go to the Fuelio folder at the top of the internal storage. backup-csv holds the CSV exports and backup-local the Backup All zips.
  3. Send the files to the computer with a USB cable, by e-mail or with a drive app.

No Fuelio folder at the top of the phone’s storage? Search the file manager for backup-csv, or turn on the Google Drive backup in the app and take the files from Drive, as below.

From Google Drive or Dropbox

Turn on the Google Drive or Dropbox backup in Fuelio’s settings. After that, Fuelio copies its files to the cloud as you add fill-ups.

On an iPhone

Fuelio for iPhone can export your data as a CSV file at any time and keep an automatic backup in iCloud Drive, its App Store page says. Export the CSV and send it to the computer by AirDrop, by e-mail or through iCloud Drive. We have not seen the iPhone app’s menus or its iCloud backup files ourselves, so the CSV export is the file to use here.

Which file to pick

What is inside a Fuelio file

Each CSV file holds one vehicle, in sections that start with a line such as ## Log. The developers who wrote importers for Fuelio’s files from real exports list these sections:

SectionWhat it holdsIn Fillbook
## VehicleThe name, units, plate, VIN, make, model, year and tanksShown, and the units decide how every figure is shown
## LogEvery fill-up: date and time, odometer, amount, full or part tank, price, price per unit, place, notes, a missed fill-up and the tankRead: consumption, costs, charts and the list of entries
## CostCategories, ## CostsServices, insurance, parking and other costs with their category, and repeating costsRead, apart from the templates of repeating costs
## FavStationsYour saved fuel stationsLeft out
## PicturesThe list of photos and the entry each one belongs toLeft out; the photos are never opened
## CategoryTrip categories, such as Private and WorkLeft out

There is no currency in the file, so Fillbook lets you type the label that goes after the amounts.

Open it

Go to Fillbook, choose the file or files, or drop them on the box. Your log is read in the browser tab on your own device and is never uploaded or changed.
