Reddit is ending RSS feeds and its public API: what it means for your saved posts
On September 30, 2026 Reddit announced that RSS feeds end on November 13, 2026 and that public API access closes in steps until March 2027. Its help center changelog of October 8 lists the dates. Tools that read your saved posts through that API are among what stops; the data request is not part of the change.
The dates
| Date | What changes |
|---|---|
| October 31, 2026 | New requests for public API access are no longer accepted. |
| November 13, 2026 | Reddit stops supporting RSS feeds. "If you use RSS for feeds outside of a community you moderate, there is no replacement." |
| January 12, 2027 | API access removal begins for apps and users that have not registered or responded to Reddit's outreach. |
| March 2027 | The remaining public API access ends. |
Reddit says the move is part of efforts against scraping and automated abuse, and that public Data API apps and bots are moving to its Developer Platform. Its Responsible Builder Policy already asks every app to "request access and get explicit approval before accessing any Reddit data through our API".
What stops
- RSS feeds of communities and users, in feed readers, on November 13, 2026.
- Personal scripts and small tools that read Reddit through the public API without being registered, as the removals start on January 12, 2027. Many saved-post exporters and organisers are of this kind; check with the one you use whether it registered.
- What is left of public API access in March 2027.
What does not change
- Your saved list in the app and on reddit.com. It stays where it is, still a list of about the last 1,000 items.
- The data request. The announcement does not mention it, and Reddit's help page for it was live when we checked on October 29, 2026. It is the way Reddit itself offers to get a copy of your saves, posts, comments, messages and chats.
How to keep your saved posts
- Ask for your data at reddit.com/settings/data-request. It can take up to 30 days, so do it before you need it. What to expect
- When the ZIP arrives, open it in Threadkeep. Every save in
saved_posts.csvandsaved_comments.csvshows as a list by community, past the 1,000 the app shows. - Keep it where you will find it: Threadkeep Pro saves the list as a bookmarks file for your browser or Raindrop.io, and the whole export as offline pages, Markdown notes and spreadsheets.
- Repeat the request now and then; each ZIP is a copy of that day.
Have your export? Open it here and keep your saves in a form you control. Nothing is uploaded.
Open your export in ThreadkeepThreadkeep Pro, $8 paid once: every saved post and comment as a bookmarks file for your browser or Raindrop.io, and the whole export as offline pages, Markdown notes and spreadsheets. Get Pro on Gumroad or see what is free.
Questions
Is Reddit deleting saved posts?
No. The announcement is about RSS feeds and the public API, the ways other software reads Reddit. Your saved list stays in your account.
Will my saved-posts app keep working after January 12, 2027?
Only if it registered with Reddit or answered Reddit's outreach, and then only until March 2027 if it uses the remaining public access. Ask the app's maker.
Is there a replacement for Reddit RSS?
Reddit says that outside a community you moderate there is no replacement. Moderators are pointed to tools on Reddit's Developer Platform.
