What Microsoft says
- "only MSA users can see their previously saved collections at https://bing.com/saves." (MSA means a personal Microsoft account.)
- "Starting with Edge version 145, MSA users will no longer be able to add new items to Collections via Edge. However, they can still add to Bing Collections from Bing and access saved Collections at https://bing.com/saves."
- The export option is marked "AAD - Enterprise users only": "If you're using a work or school account, you can export your Collections data for backup or offline use."
So for a personal account your collections are viewable online, but Microsoft's help page lists no way to download them (Organize your ideas with Collections in Microsoft Edge).
How to keep a copy you control
- Check the file on your PC first. Edge also kept collections in a collectionsSQLite file in your profile folder. Open it on Stashback: if your collections are there, save the bookmarks file and the spreadsheet and you are done.
- Compare with Bing Saves. Sign in at Bing Saves (bing.com/saves) and look at your collections. If they hold pages that the file does not, those were kept online only.
- Copy those pages out by hand. Open each page from Bing Saves and bookmark it, or copy its address into a note. For many pages this is slow, but it needs nothing installed and gives nothing your password.
Be careful with tools that ask you to sign in to your Microsoft account on their site, or browser extensions that can read every page you open. Stashback never asks for your password: it only reads the file you choose, on your own computer.
Why the file and Bing Saves can differ
When Edge synced Collections for a personal account, the online copy was the main one. A Collections file on one PC can therefore be older than what you saw last, or, on some computers, hold only the names of collections and none of their pages. Stashback tells you when it finds names without pages, and lists those names so you know what to look for on Bing Saves.
Work or school accounts
Microsoft offers "Export Your Data" to work and school accounts in the Collections pane of Edge versions that still show it. If your Edge no longer has the pane, ask your IT team; the file on your PC may also hold your collections and opens the same way on Stashback.
Open your Collections file
Choose the collectionsSQLite file from your Edge profile folder: every collection appears with its pages, notes and pictures, and you can save it all as a bookmarks file or a spreadsheet. Free, and nothing is uploaded.
Questions
Can I download my collections from bing.com/saves?
Microsoft's help page lists an export for work and school accounts only. For personal accounts it says the collections can be seen at bing.com/saves, and names no download.
Does Stashback read Bing Saves?
No. Stashback never signs in to anything. It reads the collectionsSQLite file Edge keeps on your computer, which may hold the same collections.
Can I still add pages to Bing Saves?
Microsoft says personal accounts can still add to Bing Collections from Bing, while adding from Edge stopped with Edge 145.
