Where Notepad was in Yahoo Mail
Yahoo's Notepad help page says to open it "from Yahoo Mail, click the Notepad icon". Notes are kept in notebooks, and new notes go to the one called "Notebook" unless you pick another (Add, edit, or delete notes in Yahoo Notepad).
That help page is written for the old version of Yahoo Mail for desktop. In the new Yahoo Mail and in the Yahoo Mail app the icon may sit elsewhere or be gone, and we could not check every version ourselves. The shutdown page does not list where Notepad still opens.
How to access Yahoo Notepad notes now
The dependable way is the download, and it does not need the Notepad icon at all:
- Sign in to Yahoo Mail on a computer and go to the download manager. Yahoo links it to mail.yahoo.com/getmydata.
- Click Download under "Calendar and Notepad".
- Confirm the email address Yahoo should send it to, and click OK.
These are the steps on Yahoo Notepad to be discontinued. When the email arrives, open the file on Lastleaf to read and save your notes.
If Notepad has disappeared from your mailbox
Ask for the download anyway: Yahoo's shutdown page offers it until January 15, 2027, and it does not say the Notepad icon has to be there. If the notes you are looking for are ones you saw on an iPhone, they may be stored differently; see Yahoo notes on an iPhone.
If the email from Yahoo does not come
- Look in the spam or junk folder of the address you confirmed, and check that you typed that address correctly.
- Give it time. For downloads requested in Yahoo's privacy controls, Yahoo says a download "can take up to 30 days" to become available and stays available for 30 days, and that you cannot ask again for the same product until the first request is completed or cancelled (View and manage data associated with your account). Yahoo does not say whether the same timings apply to the Notepad download manager.
- Yahoo's privacy controls have their own "Download My Data" option, where you choose the products to include. We could not check whether Notepad is in that list.
Another Notepad?
Notepad on Windows is Microsoft's plain text editor and has nothing to do with Yahoo Notepad, although it opens the text file Lastleaf saves. Notes on an iPhone is Apple's app; it can keep notes in a Yahoo account, which is a separate case covered in Yahoo notes on an iPhone.
Open your Notepad file
Got the file from Yahoo's email? Open it in your browser, read every note it holds with its notebook and dates, and save them all as one text file. Built for the export Yahoo describes and tested on sample files. Free, and nothing is uploaded.
