The tool

Chatbound is a free tool by Peak Apps Studio that opens the data export Character.AI emails to its users and shows the chats in a readable form. It is provided as it is. We test it carefully, but we can’t promise it reads every export, because Character.AI doesn’t publish the format and may change it. Keep your original ZIP: Chatbound never changes it.

Chatbound is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Character Technologies, Inc., Janitor AI, SillyTavern, Perchance or Sakura.fm. Their names are used here only to say which export the tool reads and which apps can import the files it makes.

Moving to other apps

The character cards and chat files follow published formats (Character Card V2 and SillyTavern’s chat file) and hold only what your export holds. Other apps decide how they import them and may change that at any time; the guides on this site describe them as we checked them, on the date each guide gives. Moving characters made by other people to another app is your decision: respect their creators and the rules of the app you move to.

Your content

Your export and the files you save from it are yours. We never receive them. Open only exports you are entitled to open, such as your own.

Chatbound Pro

• Pro costs $8, paid once on Gumroad. It is not a subscription.
• It adds converting every character and every chat at once (one ZIP of character cards and chat files), the offline book of every chat, the print layout for PDF, the EPUB and merging several exports.
• The licence is for your own use. Paste the key on each browser and device you use.
• If Pro doesn’t work with your export, write to info@peakappsstudio.com within 14 days of buying and we will refund you.

Changes

We may update the tool and these terms. The date at the top shows when the terms were last checked.
