KDP coloring book sizes
Amazon KDP prints paperbacks in 16 trim sizes for Amazon.com, from 5 × 8 in up to 8.5 × 11 in and A4. For a coloring book the choice comes down to three things: how much room each design gets, how many pages the size allows on your paper, and what it costs to print.

Page limits are KDP's minimum and maximum page counts for each ink and paper. The drawing area is KDP's minimum safe area for one page without bleed, at 24 to 150 pages (0.375 in gutter, 0.25 in elsewhere). “Large” trims cost more per page to print.

What the size changes
Room for each design
8.5 × 11 in gives the largest drawing area of the US sizes, about 7.9 × 10.5 in inside KDP's margins. 8.5 × 8.5 in keeps the width and makes the page square, which suits mandalas and other round designs. At 6 × 9 in it drops to 5.4 × 8.5 in, a little over half the area of letter size.
Pixels you need
KDP asks for 300 DPI at the printed size. A design filling the 8.5 × 11 in drawing area needs about 2363 × 3150 pixels; at 6 × 9 in, about 1613 × 2550. Pages drawn for printable letter-size sheets fit 8.5 × 11 in without resizing.
Page limits
The square and letter sizes (8.5 × 8.5 and 8.5 × 11 in) top out at 590 pages on white paper and 550 on cream, where most trims allow 828 and 776. Coloring books rarely get close, even with blank backs. Standard color starts at 72 pages and isn't offered for A4.
Print cost on Amazon.com
KDP charges a fixed cost per book plus a cost per page, and large trims cost more. A trim counts as large when it is wider than 6.12 in or taller than 9 in, so 8.5 × 11 in is large and 6 × 9 in is regular.

So a 100-page black-and-white coloring book costs $2.84 to print at 8.5 × 11 in and $2.30 at 6 × 9 in. At 120 pages the letter-size book costs $3.04. Color is much more: premium color is $1.00 + $0.08 per page on a large trim, $9.00 for 100 pages.

Matching the size to the book
- Big, simple shapes for young children: 8.5 × 11 in or 8.5 × 8.5 in, so thick outlines and large areas stay large.
- Detailed adult designs: 8.5 × 11 in gives fine lines the most room; check that the thinnest lines are at least 0.75 pt, KDP's minimum line weight.
- Round or symmetrical designs: 8.5 × 8.5 in or 8.25 × 8.25 in wastes less paper above and below the art.
- Wide scenes: 8.25 × 6 in is KDP's only landscape trim; it binds on the short side.
- Travel or pocket books: 6 × 9 in or 5.5 × 8.5 in cost less per copy but give a much smaller page.
